Instagram Prepares to Launch New ‘Edits’ App For Videos

Published On: March 3rd, 2025Categories: InstagramBy

Instagram is preparing to launch its new video editing app, ‘Edits,’ looking to shake up the content creation space. Designed to function like ByteDance’s CapCut, this tool will provide users with advanced video editing capabilities, allowing for more creative and professional looking content. While not all features will be immediately available, Instagram has shared a few details on what users can expect at launch—and what’s still in development.

One of the most notable features of ‘Edits’ is its Projects tab, which allows users to manage multiple video projects simultaneously, ideal for content creators who handle various campaigns and drafts. Additionally, the app will feature a Cutouts tool, enabling users to isolate specific elements within a clip—something that could make videos more dynamic and engaging.

Instagram has also revealed a “Made with Edits” tag that will appear on videos edited within the app. This branding could serve as a promotional tool, encouraging more downloads of the platform. Previously announced features, such as AI-generated background editing, still image animation, and collaboration tools, are also in the works, though not all will be available at launch.

Instagram Chief Adam Mosseri has indicated that new creative tools will be tested in ‘Edits’ before rolling out to Instagram and Threads. This means early adopters will gain first access to new and advanced features, particularly those leveraging Meta’s growing AI investments.

This app will be valuable for any social media manager or content creator’s tool kit, as it streamlines editing workflows, takes advantage of AI enhancements, and provides early access to new features. While Instagram hasn’t opened the doors to beta testers yet, the functionality suggests a user-friendly, efficient tool that could rival TikTok’s CapCut.

In regards to CapCut, the launch of ‘Edits’ comes at a critical time. The uncertainty surrounding TikTok and its associated apps, including CapCut, could make Instagram’s rival app even more appealing.

Amid ongoing discussions about TikTok’s fate in the U.S., there are growing concerns about its availability. According to Axios, no negotiations are currently underway to keep the platform running stateside, as the U.S. government has yet to appoint an official to lead discussions.

TikTok’s future remains uncertain with the extended deadline for a potential sale approaching. If access to TikTok and CapCut becomes restricted, ‘Edits’ could become an essential tool for creators seeking a comparable alternative.

If ‘Edits’ delivers on its advertised features, the app could become a powerful asset for social media professionals looking to enhance their video content. We’ll be keeping a close eye on its launch and its potential impact on the video editing space.
