Google Shopping Updates You Need to Know
Consumers frequently turn to Google to discover new businesses and products throughout their shopping journey. Shopping is not just about buying – it is about consumers exploring their options, finding trends and styles, and researching their options to find the best item at the right price.
Google recently announced new ways the company is transforming how people shop with Google, bringing consumers a more informed and personalized shopping experience.
Here are some of the key updates your business needs to know about as it relates to product discovery through Google:
More visual ways to shop
When consumers search the word “shop” followed by whatever item they are looking for, they will access a visual feed of products, research tools, and nearby inventory related to that product. Clicking on a product brings up a panel with links to various retailers selling the product. This allows searchers to read more about a product without losing their place in the results list.
Now more than ever, it is critical for your business to have your Google Business Profile fully set up. Google lets you showcase your product inventory directly on your profile, so consumers can see what products you carry.
See what’s trending
Trending products show searchers products that are popular within a category — helping consumers find the latest models, styles, and brands. Shoppers in the U.S. are able to shop the look and see trending products through Google.
Shopping filters on Search now change based on real-time Search trends. For example, if someone is searching for jeans, they may see filters for “wide leg” and “bootcut” because those are trendy denim styles right now — but those may change over time, depending on what the latest trend is.
Searchers are about to start seeing more personalized shopping results based on their previous shopping behaviors. They will also be able to tell the platform their preferences and decide if they would like these results or not.
See what other shoppers think
The new page insights feature in the Google app provides context about a webpage someone is on or a product they are researching, like its pros and cons and star ratings, all in one place. Consumers can also sign up for price drop updates to find the best deal.
