FACEBOOK ZERO: The New Algorithm and Its Impact On Marketers
More just in on the new Facebook algorithm that kicked-in last week.
While Some refer to this change as “ Facebook Apocalypse” or “ Facebook Zero,” we think of it as an “opportunity to eclipse those who do not evolve and rise to meet the challenge. Simply put, strategy is more important than it ever was before.
Here is the low-down on what these changes mean for you and your business on Facebook.
1: News Feed Space is limited. Therefore less is really more. It’s purely quality over quantity. Facebook will only show in people’s newsfeed that which they deem is meaningful and “people connecting.”
2: Facebook will show less public content, including videos and other posts from publishers or businesses. (I would like to see how Gifs perform as there is little mentioned on how Gifs will be impacted.)
3: Pages could very possibly see their reach, video watch time, and referral traffic decrease. (We have a strategy in place which may minimize the impact on our clients’ pages. )
4: Videos will get less watch time. Translation: you’ll see less video in your News Feed.
5: Links to external pages will get less visibility. There will not be as many links to blog posts, news, and so on in your newsfeed. (Here too, our strategy has changed to meet this shift head-on.)
6: Stories will have more legs and get more airtime than promotional posts. Meaning, Facebook will “prioritize posts that spark conversations and meaningful interactions between people.
